Residents stopping by the Tax Collector's office in Land O' Lakes or Lutz this month can drop a donation into Pasco Fire Rescue's annual Boot Drive, with all proceeds going to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
The Pasco County Tax Collector's Office announced Thursday, Aug. 6, that it is hosting the drive at all five locations through the end of August as part of its monthly charitable giving program. Tax Collector Mike Fasano's offices rotate a designated charity each month; in July, the beneficiary was the Pasco School District's ABC Program.
The Boot Drive, also known nationally as "Fill the Boot," is organized through IAFF Local 4420, the union representing Pasco County's professional firefighters. The campaign traces its roots to 1954, when families affected by muscular dystrophy first approached the Boston Fire Department and asked professional firefighters to help raise money to fight the disease. It has since grown into a nationwide tradition.
Locally, Pasco Fire Rescue members have participated for years. The Tax Collector's office called it a partnership it is "proudly once again hosting."
The drive runs through Monday, Aug. 31.

Two offices sit squarely in the Land O' Lakes and Lutz area:

Three additional locations accept donations: the West Pasco Government Center and Gulf Harbors office in New Port Richey, and the East Pasco Government Center in Dade City.
All offices are open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Gulf Harbors and Wesley Chapel locations also open Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to noon.
