A Pasco County resident named Dawn received keys to a new manufactured home Thursday, Sept. 3, marking the first completed home delivery under the county's Better Future Program. She lost her previous home during the 2024 hurricane season.
Program Covers Damage From Three Hurricanes
The county's Office of Disaster Recovery Resources replaced Dawn's home through the Better Future Program, which helps homeowners repair, rebuild or replace homes damaged by hurricanes Idalia, Helene and Milton. The program is open to homeowners across Pasco County, including those in Land O' Lakes, Odessa and Lutz.
Pasco County government announced the milestone on Facebook, calling it a safer and stronger new beginning for Dawn. County leaders attended the key handover ceremony.
Federal Grant Funds $585 Million Recovery Effort
The program is backed by $585.7 million in Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) funds awarded to Pasco County by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), according to a county public notice. The federal money covers recovery from three declared disasters: Hurricane Idalia, Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton.
Wesley Chapel Family Reimbursed Over $46,000
Dawn is not the only resident the program has helped. A Wesley Chapel family received more than $46,000 in reimbursement after spending their own savings to repair damage from Hurricane Idalia, the county said in an Aug. 31 post on X.
Income Limits Raised in June
The county raised income limits for the program in June. A one-person household earning up to $96,360 now qualifies. A family of four can earn up to $137,640, according to the Pasco County Public Information Office.
