A milk-hauling tractor-trailer overturned on northbound Interstate 75 in Pasco County on Sunday, sending a 59-year-old Temple Terrace man to the hospital by air with serious injuries.
Crash Happened Near Wesley Chapel Sunday Morning
The crash happened around 6:10 a.m. near the 284 milepost, between the Overpass Road and State Road 52 exits in the Wesley Chapel area, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Semi Hit Parked Pickup Before Flipping
FHP said the driver lost control of the northbound semi, which veered onto the outside shoulder and struck an unoccupied pickup truck stopped there. The impact sent the tractor-trailer into the tree line, WFLA reported, crashing through trees and brush and causing serious damage to the cab.
Driver Airlifted, Cause Still Unclear
The driver was airlifted to a nearby hospital. His name has not been released. FHP has not said what caused him to lose control.
Highway Reduced to One Lane for Hours
The crash forced northbound I-75 down to one lane for a few hours Sunday morning while crews removed the overturned semi and cleared the roadway, WTSP reported.
FHP is investigating.
