Cleanup Ties Into Global Ocean Conservation Push

The cleanup is part of the International Coastal Cleanup coordinated by Ocean Conservancy. That global effort has drawn more than 18 million volunteers and removed more than 380 million pounds of trash since 1986, according to NatureCoaster.com.

Keep Pasco Beautiful says about 80% of the trash found in local waterways starts on land. Removing debris before it enters the stormwater system helps prevent pollution from reaching rivers, lakes and the Gulf of Mexico.

Registration Deadlines Have Already Passed

Organizers will provide disposable gloves, trash bags and cleanup T-shirts while supplies last, according to NatureCoaster.com. The Tampa Bay Beacons reported the original registration deadline was Sept. 5. Keep Pasco Beautiful later said on Instagram the deadline was extended to Sept. 10. Both deadlines have passed.
