Hillsborough County voters who cast mail ballots with a missing or mismatched signature have until 5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, to fix the problem or risk having their ballot thrown out.

The Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections office said affected voters must complete and return a Vote By Mail Cure Affidavit along with a copy of their ID before the deadline. The office posted the reminder on X on Wednesday, Nov. 4. Lutz residents who live in Hillsborough County and voted by mail should check whether they received a signature notification.

The deadline falls on the second day after Election Day, as required by the office's vote-by-mail rules.

Who needs to act

Voters who received a notification that their signature was missing from the ballot return envelope or that their signature did not match the one on file need to submit the affidavit. The elections office checks every mail ballot signature against the voter's signature on record, according to the office's website.

Failure to follow the affidavit instructions may cause a ballot not to count, the office warns.

How to submit

Voters can return the completed cure affidavit by email, mail, fax or hand delivery. It must arrive at one of the Supervisor of Elections offices by the 5 p.m. deadline.

The main office address is 2514 N. Falkenburg Rd., Tampa, FL 33619. Voters can also call 813-612-4180 for assistance.

The cure affidavit form is available on the Supervisor of Elections website at votehillsborough.gov under the Vote By Mail section.

Signature updates for future elections

Voters whose signatures have changed can update their records through an online voter registration application tied to their Florida driver license or Florida ID, according to the elections office website. A paper Florida Voter Registration Application also works. Any signature update must be received before a voted mail ballot arrives at the office.
