DAVRON, an executive search firm on Land O' Lakes Boulevard, donated $5,000 and school supplies to Christian Social Services through its Backpacks for Kids drive.
The firm, led by President David Coreen and founded in 1997, specializes in placing engineering, architecture, construction and manufacturing professionals. Staff collected backpacks, notebooks, calculators, folders and pencils for the drive, then presented Christian Social Services a $5,000 check to help the nonprofit continue its work with children and families, The Laker/Lutz News reported Sept. 1.
Christian Social Services, at 5514 Land O' Lakes Blvd., has served central Pasco and north Hillsborough counties since opening in August 1987. The nonprofit was founded by pastors and lay people from Lutz and Land O' Lakes churches and provides food, clothing and supportive services to families in need.

Local students earn university honors
Several Lutz and Odessa students earned spots on the University of Alabama's spring semester honors lists.
Lutz residents Isabella Becker, Audrey Durrieu, Victoria Ferreira and Christopher Hovan made the dean's list, which requires a grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 or higher. Dillon Costello and Jaden Scott of Odessa also made the dean's list.
Three Lutz students earned the president's list, which requires a 4.0 GPA: Renata Blatt, Danielle Kanas and Madison Maxwell. Logan Hinsberg and Graydon Horn of Odessa also made the president's list.
Eleven students honored. Five universities represented.
Odessa's Kassandra Kocan earned a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Mississippi State University's College of Veterinary Medicine. Caitlyn Culpepper of Odessa received a Bachelor of Arts in biochemistry and Spanish from the University of Mississippi.
Noah Kliewer and Sarah Roberson, both of Lutz, made the dean's list at Grove City College in Grove City, Pennsylvania, where students need at least a 3.4 GPA. Kelsey Barrett of Odessa made the provost's list at Troy University, which requires a 3.65 GPA.
Sarah Salemy of Odessa earned a Master of Science in college student personnel from the University of Rhode Island. Allison Ferguson of Lutz and Kaleb Smith of Odessa enrolled at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia, with Ferguson planning to major in international affairs and Smith in business management.
