Metro Development Group broke ground Tuesday, Sept. 1, on a new amenity center at Angeline in northern Land O' Lakes. The developer also announced a partnership with BayCare Health System to place a care navigator on-site for residents of the 6,200-acre master-planned community.

The amenity center, called The Social, will include pickleball courts, a tot lot, a dog park and a pool. No completion date has been announced.

BayCare navigator to serve as residents' first point of contact

The health partnership, called the Metro and BayCare Health Care Navigator Program, will station a care navigator at Angeline as residents' first point of contact for health and wellness questions, the Tampa Bay Beacons first reported. A registered nurse will be available by phone, email and chat to coordinate appointments, connect residents with preventive screenings and help them find the right level of care.

BayCare's mobile health unit will also visit the community on a regular schedule for vaccinations, blood pressure checks and glucose testing.

Lisa Gibbings, Metro Development's vice president of marketing and communications, said in a news release that the program brings clinical guidance directly into the community and simplifies residents' access to care and wellness resources.

Community expected to reach 35,000 residents at full buildout

Angeline is expected to house about 35,000 residents at full buildout. Metro Development acquired the property in 2018 and has since added hundreds of homes and a welcome center with a community garden at the State Road 52 entrance.

School and cancer campus already anchor growing area

The community already anchors two major institutions. Angeline Academy of Innovation, a $52.7 million magnet school serving grades six through 12, opened in August 2023 and is now in its fourth school year. The 775-acre Moffitt Speros cancer campus, backed by more than $1 billion in capital investment, opened its first outpatient center on Jan. 9, WUSF reported.

The navigator program's start date and staffing details have not yet been released.
