The Sunlake Seahawks ground out a 14-10 road victory over the Weeki Wachee Hornets on Friday, Oct. 2, pulling their season record back to .500 at 3-3.
Sunlake held off the winless Hornets at Weeki Wachee High School in a non-district matchup. The loss dropped Weeki Wachee to 0-6, according to MaxPreps.
The victory gave the Seahawks a needed rebound after a 41-0 district loss to Wiregrass Ranch on Sept. 25.
Merriman leads Sunlake offense
Senior running back Nathan Merriman led Sunlake with 142 rushing yards on eight carries against Weeki Wachee, according to MaxPreps. He also caught passes for 32 yards.
Merriman's biggest play was a 74-yard run.
Weeki Wachee's defense kept the game close by intercepting two passes. Aiden Williamson recorded both interceptions for the Hornets.
The victory also avenged Sunlake's 20-19 loss to Weeki Wachee when the teams met in August 2025.
District game up next
Sunlake returns to district play Friday, Oct. 9, with a road game against Wesley Chapel.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. The game will count toward the 5A District 7 standings.
