Every dog and cat at Pasco County Animal Services can be adopted at no cost during a five-day event starting Wednesday, Aug. 26.

The shelter at 19640 Dogpatch Lane in Land O' Lakes is participating in NBCUniversal's annual Clear the Shelters campaign through Sunday, Aug. 30. The fee waiver covers not just the adoption itself but spaying or neutering, vaccinations and microchipping, according to WFLA.

"Swing by, meet our amazing pets and find the perfect fit for your family," PCAS Director Gary Herrero told the Tampa Free Press.

The shelter handles roughly 5,000 to 6,000 animals each year and works toward a "Save 90" goal, meaning at least 90% of animals are saved through adoption, reunification or transfer, according to a May profile in Oracle News.

There's one catch: Pasco County residents must still purchase a county license for each adopted pet.

Event hours

  • Wednesday, Aug. 26, and Thursday, Aug. 27: noon to 5 p.m.
  • Friday, Aug. 28, and Saturday, Aug. 29: noon to 6 p.m.
  • Sunday, Aug. 30: noon to 5 p.m.

These match the shelter's regular public hours, so no extended schedule is planned.

The nationwide Clear the Shelters effort has helped place more than 1.3 million animals into homes since it began. The 2026 campaign is also partnering with Greater Good Charities to accept online donations through ClearTheSheltersFund.org.
