Lutz and Odessa residents can fold origami bats, build dragon eggs and design door flags during four free library programs this month.

The Hillsborough County Public Library Cooperative announced the events at the Lutz Branch Library and Austin Davis Public Library in Odessa as part of its October programming. The programs offer activities for adults, teens and children.

Lutz library offers horror party, dragon folklore

The first event is the Thrills and Chills Genre Party from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, at the Lutz Branch Library, 101 W. Lutz Lake Fern Road.

Geared toward adults who enjoy horror fiction, the program includes origami bat bookmarks, illustration games and short writing challenges.

Teens can return to the Lutz library from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20, for Here There Be Dragons.

The program explores dragon legends from around the world before participants create their own dragon egg replicas to take home.

Odessa programs feature flags and dragons

The Austin Davis Public Library, 17808 Wayne Road in Odessa, will host Exploring the World of Flags: America's 250th Edition from 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28.

The children's program explores the role flags play in everyday life and gives participants a chance to create decorative door flags.

Here There Be Dragons comes to the Odessa library from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29. The teen program will again combine international dragon folklore with a hands-on dragon egg craft.

The four local events are part of a larger October lineup across the Hillsborough County Public Library Cooperative.
