Student parking at Land O' Lakes High School is already at capacity, and families have until 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14 to pay fees or risk losing their spots entirely.
The school posted a parking update on its website Wednesday, Aug. 12, warning that students approved for parking who haven't paid their fees will be removed from eligibility and forced onto a waitlist. Students who painted parking spaces but haven't paid painting or parking fees face the same consequence: their tags could be revoked and their painted spots forfeited.
A separate first-come, first-served waitlist opens Friday, Aug. 14 at 2:30 p.m. through the LOLHS website for students hoping to snag any additional spots. The school said some spaces may open because some students attend only portions of the day.
There's no guarantee spots will open up. Students placed on the waitlist will be notified via school email if a space becomes available and will have one week to pay and pick up a tag before the spot goes to the next student.
Students who have paid their fees can pick up parking tags during their assigned lunch period on Friday, Aug. 14 and Saturday, Aug. 15.
New stadium shrinks the lot
The school acknowledged that the South Parking Lot may appear to have open spaces but said it is intentionally selling fewer spots to prepare for construction on a new stadium project expected to begin mid-year. The school said it is accounting for those lost spaces now to avoid a parking crisis later in the school year.
The Pasco County School Board approved Manhattan Construction LLC to manage demolition and construction of athletics facilities at the school, with the board first greenlighting the project on Feb. 3 and entering a pre-construction services agreement on May 19 at a fee of $47,073.63, according to school board records.
Enforcement starts Monday
Beginning Monday, Aug. 17, every vehicle parked on campus must display a valid parking tag. The school warned that vehicles without a properly displayed tag will be cited, and repeated violations could result in towing at the owner's expense.
Students who cannot drive because they lack a parking pass and had planned to be off campus for part of the day should submit a schedule change request form to add on-campus courses.
